A forum on the potentials of the non-act and other inhibitions

In the run-up to the opening of the special exhibition “dance! Moves that move us”, the interdisciplinary dance and theory forum THE HESITATING BODY sets out to tackle moments of physical irresolution, of standing still before the act. 

The two-day forum invites artists, philosophers, cultural scholars, dancers and choreographers to examine this allegedly non-active moment and the hidden potentials of interrupted movement. In the centre of attention stands the depiction of the “hesitating body” itself: a real body and abstract figure alike, in which the strands of dance and theory merge. What does such a “hesitating body” look like, which forms of expression are associated with it, how can it be performed?

By means of dance, performance and practical workshops, but also lectures and film presentations, the forum invites 15 international practitioners from the fields of dance and theory on stage to participate in a both playful and critical discourse on “hesitation”. In the centre of the space not a podium but a dance floor, allowing for the results to be physically tested, rehearsed right on the spot. 

The language of presentation will be German and English.
